Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 at Long Beach California. DuVernay was introduced to art from the aunt Denise. She was a night nurse to allow her aunt the space she required during the day for the love of literature, art as well as theatre. DuVernay enjoyed the movie West Side Story, which she introduced to her. DuVernay was taught by her that art could be an instrument for social activism. Her mother was also a social consciousness and taught DuVernay how to convey messages via the medium of art. DuVernay was a summer resident of Lowndes County Alabama, where the father of DuVernay was born and brought up. DuVernay's Father recalled witnessing the historical march of the Civil Rights Movement over the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. DuVernay was strongly influenced by the summers she spent in Selma and decided to make an documentary on the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay completed Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood, California in 1990. DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles upon graduation. There she received degrees in English and African American Studies. DuVernay was a student at the college when she became interested in production for the broadcast media. She started as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay recalled being instructed to look at the trash of the home of a juror. DuVernay was dissatisfied with the journalism assignments she was assigned and chose to switch over to the world of public relations. DuVernay joined a small studio as a junior publicist shortly after graduating from college. The DuVernay Agency is her first PR agency. Apart from PR, the agency developed several lifestyle websites such as Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
